Naming Your Ferret

Ferrets are, first and foremost, unique, non-traditional pets. Several key characteristics are common to ferrets, such as their lively, high-energy drive for play and exercise, their caring and affectionate love for their humans, and their high level of intelligence—specifically their wonderful ability to learn commands and fun tricks.

Therefore, you could base a gender-neutral name based on their behavior. Or you could look for one based on the quirky appearance that sets them apart from other pets – their bright eyes, lithe bodies, and sleek fur coats.

In this article, we’ll suggest different types of ideas, from traditional boy ferret names and girl ferret names to ones uniquely suited to ferrets! The possibilities are endless because ferrets have many characteristics that set them apart from other household pets!

Good Ferret Names

However, while the naming process can be a fun bonding experience with your new pet, you may feel overwhelmed by the seemingly infinite options out there.

Therefore, picking a name for any new pet is often easier said than done. Sometimes, a new owner needs only one look at their little friend to come up with a flash of inspiration for their new name.

Other times, the owner takes some time to consider the physical and personality features of their pet, and the naming process flows organically from there. But don’t worry, every naming experience is unique.

The most important thing is to have fun with it. You’ll know in your head or heart when you come up with a name that works for you and your ferret.

  1. I am getting three ferrets one male two females… One of their names are robin hood and another is going to be peter pan what should the other be??

  2. can you give me a unique, funny, gender neutral name plss.

p.s can you give me some tips on how to convince my mom to let me have one

    • You can get them descented and they smell the same as a dog, M9ine are all litter trained and was very easy to do so, they are also free roam, they run around my house like a dog would. They are basically the personality of a dog wrapped in the package of a cat. Most don’t mind there slight musk but if you pet them with a little baby powder in the mourning they will smell good all day, the Powder sticks to there musk glands. All of mine were nurtured and unscented just like all the ones from Marshall farms (petcos breeding mill) and smell was never an issue and i always find people who dont have ferrets always thinks the musk is more then what it actually is, If you came into my apt you would smell the dogs before you would smell the ferrets. Also try to avoid Marshall Farm ferrets, They tend to be less healthy with a life span of about 6-7 years rather then 10-12 if you get them from a good breeder. Also feed them a good food (Instinct The Raw Brand tm Ultimate Protein) its a cat food that checks all the boxes, i also suggest Zupreem, but Instinct is far superior. I noticed almost a 305 increase in overall size and weight in ferrets if they are started on a good food young. You can also try getting them on real raw very young, And you can just get fresh meat from butcher, Otherwise i would suggest Instincts Freeze Dried Raw treats Its freeze dried meat which doesn’t spoil and is convenient to use. Also to keep yourself from going crazy get them in a pair, ferrets are on a 3 hour clock, They play for 3 hours and sleep for 3 hours and repeat, So unless you wanna be up at 3 a.m. playing with them, then get them a companion, They are social Animals and view you and other ferrets as a family. they treat you like you are there family, So they want to eat sleep and play with you, not separate. there poop doesnt normally smell much, Not nearly to the extent of a dog, but that shouldnt matter if you litter train them, Liter Training is actually simple, Ferrets like to poop in corners, they make corner style litter boxes, just fill all corners with liter boxes and then as they get older within a few months you can take away the extra liter boxes and they will start using the only one left, Also ferrets tend to poop immediately after waking up, so if you see them waking up just get ready to put them into the liter box, and then give them a treat after. Mine got smart and will actually pretend to poop just to get a treat lol. Also be aware they are extremely smart, you will learn through trial and error how to “ferret proof” your home, and realize if there is a way for them to get out then they will find it. Avoid all sweets and carbs, Ferrets are obligate Carnivore’s, meaning they have to eat meat. They Really shouldn’t eat anything but meat. If you do not abide by this you will almost definitely cause or fast track Insulinoma, Which will lead to death. Take that last point seriously, It happens way more often then you would think. I don’t know the actual stats but if i was told 1 in 10 ferrets get insulinoma i wouldn’t be surprised. If i could start from scratch the things i would have done differnt is not get a Marshall Farms Ferret and go to a reputable breeder, I would have started them on a higher quality food at a younger age and i would have introduced them to a wider range of foods during there first 6 months, Once they are over 6 months its much harder to get them to try new treats, This is important because if they ever get sick and loose appetite you want to have a broad range of treats to try and offer to get them to eat. When mine are sick they wont eat the normal kibble but they will eat there treats, So i been able to keep on there weight while they were getting over there illness. Last tip. If they get sick keep and eye on there excrement, and how often, That will be key to diagnose. If they have Diarea for more then a day switch there water with unflavored Pedialyte and give them about a dime sized drop of pepto bismal to help with diarrhea and upset stomach (Yellow egg yolk will also help with diarrhea). I am not a doctor or vet, But i got my 1st ferret 30 years ago, I currently own 3 and my Sister Owns 4, The Pepto was recommended to me by my vet to help with Ulcers and Diarrhea.
