Hedgehog Names – 200 Amazing Ideas for Naming Your Prickly Pal

hedgehog names

Need ideas for great hedgehog names? Well, we’ve got you covered!

It is small. And spiky. And really, really cute. What is it? Your pet hedgehog, of course!

Hedgehogs are really getting to be popular pets, despite the ongoing ban (sniff) against ownership of these exotic pets in several U.S. states.

As it turns out, these tiny nocturnal mammals are no more easy or difficult to care for than other exotic pets. They just have their own set of unique requirements, including a high protein, low fat diet, lots of exercise and frequent handling to ensure they are well socialized to humans.

Many owners describe their hedgies as “little round balls of love,” and say the extra care requirements are well worth what they receive in return!

Because there is so much demand today, you likely had a bit of a wait before you were able to bring home a hedgehog of your very own. Or maybe you are still on a wait list right now and have decided to use your extra time to think up a name for your hedgehog in advance.

To which we say – well done you, and here’s hoping this list of some really good hedgehog names will get you (um) pointed in the right direction as you brainstorm African pygmy hedgehog names for your soon-to-be spiky new family member!

Naming your hedgehog

So here you are, brainstorming pygmy hedgehog names. Only all of a sudden, your usually creative mind is drawing a complete blank.

Hedgehog names…..good hedgehog names….why can’t you think of any?

The truth is, it can be a lot harder to pick out male or female hedgehog names when you aren’t even sure which gender you will be getting! Also, deciding on hedgehog pet names can be a tall order if you and your new hedgie are still getting to know one another.

So we’d like to offer a bit of structure to help ease any anxiety you may be feeling and perhaps give you some practical categories to work from in brainstorming the perfect hedgehog names.

  • Pick a name you really, really like! After all, you are likely to be saying it (and hearing others say it) many times each day.
  • Avoid names that sound too much like the names of other family members or friends. Remember, not everyone might assume it is an honor to have a tiny spiky hedgie named after them!
  • Gather group consensus. If you are the sole namer, you may have an easier job, but if you are deciding on a name as a family, you definitely want everyone to be happy with the new family member’s name.
  • The more you learn about your new pet hedgehog, the more inspiration you will have to draw from when selecting your hedgie’s new name. So when brain freeze strikes, use the time to head to the internet to do more research. This will benefit both you and your hedgehog as well as give you more name ideas.
