Deciding what to name a bearded dragon can be tricky. After all, you are hopefully going to get to spend years living with your choice, and using it every day.
When I named my little guy it took several days of debate before the right choice fell into our laps.
Fortunately, bearded dragon name ideas can come from anywhere.
As most owners don’t teach their scaly friends to come when called, you don’t need to be constrained in the way you can with cats and dogs.
There is a massive world of ideas open to you, from short and sweet to long and unusual.
Unique bearded dragon names can come from anywhere, and we’ve put some of our top choices together for you here.

Lizards are notoriously hard to sex. Many owners go there entire lizard’s life without being 100% sure whether they are a boy or a girl. And let’s face it, for most of us it really doesn’t matter either way.
Bearded dragons are solitary creatures, so unless you are deliberately intending to breed them you don’t actually need to know whether they are male or female.
So go nuts. Make whatever choice works for you, your beardie will be just as happy as a Zigar The Great as he will as a Matilda.
Cute bearded dragon names
Our rescued beardie came home as a full size adult. But most owners pick up their new reptiles as infants, and when it comes to baby bearded dragon names you normally want to have something as sweet as their tiny toes.
Here are some seriously adorable bearded dragon names for you to try on for size.
Funny bearded dragon names
When I decided to adopt our beardie, I showed a picture of him to my sister on my phone.
After an appropriate few moments of awwwws and coos, she had a very good question.
“Why is it called a bearded dragon? It doesn’t have a beard. And let’s face it, it’s not exactly a dragon”.
While he isn’t really a dragon, you can see why they got the name. But the bearded issue is much more clear, but only when you catch them in the right environment.
Because a bearded dragon’s beard appears when he’s angry, upset or stressed.
Put a full grown male beardie in front of another adult male’s tank, then watch and wait for a few moments. As soon as they notice each other, you’ll see those beards appear. A dark patch underneath the chin, where the skin will turn almost black.
So given that your bearded dragon really can have a bearded on occasion, then surely a good way to give him an amusing name can be by celebrating this funny characteristic
